Bicycling Around Bentonville 2005-6

by cleaverb

From my perspective, Bentonville is an ideal bicycling town.Relatively flat, and providing you aren't going to ride the main roads, you can get anywhere in a relatively short time. The town itself was laid out in standard fashion;roads that meet at right angles, and without all the modern inconveniences of cul de sacs. But the city has experienced phenomenal growth the last few years.

On this particular day, I 'snuck' into town via the backroads-coming down from Slaughter Pen Rd onto N.E. A St. I didn't know there was a carnival today.

Welcome to Bentonville,Arkansas. These pictures are from 2005-2006.

I parked in Memorial Park, and pulled out my relatively new bike and helmet out for a cruise.
Crossing Moberly, and you find a bike path starts at the corner, and runs down NE J St .

There's not much there, except for a trail along the RR tracks. It also goes nowhere.

Another weekend, and another party, it seems.

Typically I'm shy about gatherings, but I had no clue why this gathering was taking place.

Of course, keep the camera to yourself.Seeing as I didn't know anyone, on site, I settled for a picture of this nice Camaro.

Okay, today I'm going downtown to snap a picture of the statue in the town square.
If you know your way around, you can take the residential streets to get to here.
They had weekly farmers market on the square, but by this time of day, everyone was gone.

Take a detour over to the last vendor on the square, for a cold drink.Gatorade.

The pedestal...don't even touch those cannonballs. That is a very bad idea.

Stepping back for a wider angle.

Corner of Central and Main.

At the corner...

Walmart Visitors Center.

The federal courthouse ?

This was the Bentonville Public Library. Nice building, with large windows. Plush chairs inside.
I'm not sure what they use the building for now.

Another weekend.Seems to be a swim meet, but the place is deserted.Except for Charlie.

Continuing along, here's another spur that goes nowhere. The unique thing here it features a drinking fountain.
When you are out cruising your bicycle, the little things are important.

Another one of those small details - flavored ice! Due to road construction, it was closed this particular weekend.Normally, it's always busy.

I used to circle around the water tower, then make my way back down to J Street.

Another path to nowhere. They soon finished this to circle Memorial Park.

But I rode through the grass, to cruise by the skate park.

They were paying more attention to me than I was to them. This place is quiet today.

Practice.

A nice shot of the fire hydrant.
